The Vintages listed here, from 1996 through 2000 were made by the renowned winemaker Phillipe Melka. We were fortunate enough to have had him working with us for five years; regrettably he was compelled to seek greener pastures, with our blessings, and has moved on from our small estate to larger wineries.

Phillipe Melka returned to the Napa Valley in 1994 to establish himself as a winemaker of note. He swiftly rose to prominence and now is widely applauded as one of the leading craftsmen of his trade. Melka’s talents are the consequence of a happy juxtaposition - the geologist’s feel for terroir, the travelers familiarity with far flung wineries and estates, and a vintner’s passion to be the very best.
Melka’s blends are influenced by the effects of terroir on each harvested lot, although quietly nuanced to most, they are obvious to Melka, the Geologist. But it is the creative touch of Melka, the Winemaker, by which his wines evolve the complexities and full flavors that distinguishes genius from the rest.
Cult Wine Classic says: “Phillipe Melka will be(was) the recipient of the Golden Barrel award …..2004. This award is given to a vintner who distinguishes the self above the host of winemakers and over 1,200 wineries in California. Melka is a native of Bordeaux, and is noted for crafting some of the finest “cult” wines.” |
